Homewood at Frederick Welcomes New Foundation President!

Homewood at Frederick is pleased to be working with the new president of Homewood Retirement Centers' Foundation.  J.D. Shuman is all about building relationships and as the new leader of Homewood Retirement Centers’ Foundation, relationships will be his first priority. Shuman will take over the Foundation reins in September after serving 10 years with the Asbury Foundation, the fund-raising arm of Asbury Communities. Shuman most recently served as vice president of development with oversight of their major gifts program.

The Myersville, Maryland, resident brings a strong background in philanthropy to his new position and said Homewood’s solid reputation is just one of the factors he considered in making the decision to join the Homewood team. Shuman is a certified fund raising executive and has 20 years experience in the senior living industry  “As I have grown professionally with Asbury, I’ve been aware of Homewood’s stellar reputation for a long time,” he said, that, coupled with Homewood’s commitment to seniors and to benevolent care made the decision to join the Homewood team an easy one. “I’m excited about the opportunity to partner with philanthropists and grow support for the Homewood resident family,” Shuman said. He said he takes an innovative approach to working with donors.

One project already on his plate is the Resident Life Enrichment Endowment Fund (RLEEF) that was announced earlier this year. RLEEF is an effort to create an endowment to fund special activities and events at each Homewood site to enhance and enrich the lives of residents. It’s an opportunity to bring everyone together to do great things for Homewood residents. “I come with a ‘refuse to lose’ attitude,” Shuman said. “And I can’t wait to work closely with this team to help fulfill Homewood mission to provide compassionate, professional and caring service in order to enhance the quality of life for residents, clients and co-workers.” Homewood at Frederick is excited to be working with J.D. and knows our residents will be looking forward to meeting him at the upcoming Open House on November 15th.
